5 Reasons to get a job
Tuesday, February 2, 2016Up until this point you may have been unemployed with no desire, or ability to work. If you're deciding whether or not to join or return to the workforce, here are 5 reasons to get a job.
- Money
- Independence
- Experience
- Social Interaction
- Self-fulfilment
Money & Independence
Money is often the main benefit having a job provides and with money comes independence, reducing the need to rely on the support of others. It gives you the freedom to buy things, do things, or go places you weren't able to before.
As well as the associated short term benefits, there's also a long term benefit that isn't thought about much when you're young, saving money for retirement. The government does provide an age pension to seniors. But you don't want to be in a situation where you to have to reply on it for an income.
Experience
Getting a job gives you much needed experience. Something everyone should think about when planning the direction they want their career to go in. The job may only have a few relevant duties. But anything that gives you an edge over other people when applying for a job is valuable. Not only does it give you exposure to the things you like. It also exposes you to the things you don't like, which is useful when deciding if this is actually the job for you.
Social Interaction
Working means you'll interact with many different people, both face to face and over the phone. Your daily interaction with other people allows you to build contacts that can be used to help you gain a job later on. Contacts are important when job searching because they can inform you about unadvertised jobs, as well as act as references on your resume.
Social interaction with people is also important for your emotional well-being. Having people to share common interests with, talk about events in your life, or discuss news and current events can make a big difference when it comes to feeling supported and involved in the community.
Self-fulfilment
Getting a job doesn't have to about material gains. It can also be for personal gains such as feeling happy, feeling useful, not feeling like a burden on others, having a reason to leave the house, or giving you a purpose.
When you feel appreciated, or useful you're more likely to have a better attitude. These reasons and more are important for your sense of fulfilment and giving you a positive outlook.
Whatever reason you choose to get a job, there are many benefits to working.
