Cover Letter - Paragraph 1
Friday, March 21, 2014Today on Lets Get Working is the start of a three part series on cover letters. Last week we looked at some quick tips on cover letters.
Today we will start looking at each paragraph we put in a cover letter – the what, why and how?
Firstly a cover letter is all about the employers – its your job to know what kind of person they are looking for and for you to sell your skills to them so that they will hire you.
Start a cover letter with YOUR address and phone numbers
Then add the date
Add the name of the business and their address
Write the position you are going for in the centre in capitals.
For Example:
TYRE FITTER POSITIONThen a salutation – something like,
‘Hello Mark Spring’
Then the first paragraph which will have some research about the business and how you are a good match for it.
Example:
Your tyre business has 100% customer satisfaction and is ahead of the rest in providing quality and value. This is why you should hire me as a tyre fitter as I enjoy working with my hands and looking after customers.
By showing you know what the business does and how your skill set kits in with the business the employer will be impressed that you have done your homework and you will already be ahead of the rest.
Next week we will look at paragraph 2.
Until next time,
Enjoy the journey!
