How to Get a Job Pounding the Pavement
Friday, January 24, 2014Today on Lets Get Working, Id like to talk about getting out there, meeting people asking them questions, doing some volunteer work and ringing up to follow if there are any jobs going.
1. Informational interviews you can ask to meet with a professional to find out information about that particular area of work.
This meeting is not to hit them up for a job, but if they offer you one go for it.Have lots of questions ready like what does a day look like? What are the kinds of tasks in that job? What skills do you need?2. Networking its not what you know, but, who you know.
Ask family and friends if they know of any jobs going where they workKeep working on your friendships with people the stronger the link, the more they want to help you.3. Volunteering go volunteer for an organisation you are interested in.
You will learn new skillsEmployers will know you are serious about work and you take initiativeA volunteer job may turn into a paid job.4. Cold Calling ring organisations, ask for the Human Resource (HR) persons name.
Speak to the HR manager and ask if there is a job going.Visit the organisation in person, ask to speak to the HR person, chat with them and give them a copy of your resume. meeting you in person may prompt the HR person to remember you and hire you when a position becomes available.Until next time,
Enjoy the journey!
